U.S. Marshals looking for convicted rapist

U.S. Marshals need you to help find Ron Warren – he also goes by the name “Lordraheem Justice.”

Police and federal agents say for years he registered as a sex offender in Newport News – but now he’s quit doing that.

They don’t know why he stopped – or where the convicted rapist is.

They say they need to find him and arrest him.

Newport News babysitter arrested for sex crimes against a child

Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man was arrested on Wednesday, and is now facing sexual assault charges.

20-year-old Devante Edmonds, of the 300 block of Hickory Avenue in Newport News, is charged with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of attempted sodomy by force.

On September 27, 2013 police responded to a local hospital in reference to a past sexual assault.

The mother of the victim told police that her 7-year-old daughter was inappropriately touched by her male babysitter. The babysitter, Devante Edmonds, had been babysitting the child in his home on September 26, 2013. The mother stated that her daughter told her about the incident when they were driving home to her residence in Hampton. The victim also told her mother that this was not the first time it had occurred. Court documents show the first incident was back in February.

Officers notified the Special Victims Unit, which began its investigation.

Dad relives nightmare of son’s unsolved abduction 33 years later

Newport News, Va. – It’s an anniversary no parent should ever have to mark. Thirty-three years ago Wednesday, a woman stole 15-day-old David Blockett from his Newport News home and never looked back.

“It’s just hard, the not knowing,” said David’s father Fred West.

The case had grown cold decades ago, until a NewsChannel 3 investigation inspired local and national authorities to reopen the case two years ago.  Since then, new and more promising leads are giving investigators hope the case can be solved.

“When somebody takes your child from you like that, it just hurts,” West said.

Newport News man allegedly punched woman while she held their infant son

Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man has been charged after he allegedly punched the mother of his child in the face while she held their infant son.

According to police, on December 5th 34-year-old Kenyon Mceachern entered the Gloucester Drive home of a 20-year-old woman and began arguing with her.

The woman told police she tried to go upstairs and Mceachern punched her in the face multiple times. One punch occurred while she was holding their infant son, causing his head to strike the refrigerator.

Mceachern then allegedly fled the home, saying he would return with a gun. Police who responded obtained warrants for felony child neglect and assault on a family member.

On December 9th Mceachern was arrested at the Newport News City Jail by Sherriff personnel.

Newport News mom charged with child neglect after 1-year-old son found in car

Newport News, Va. – A Newport News woman has been charged with child neglect after police say her 1-year-old child was found inside of a vehicle in a Kohl’s parking lot.

Police responded to the Kohl’s parking lot on Bland Blvd. on Friday for a child neglect call after a passerby saw a baby sitting in a car seat in the back of an unattended silver Honda at 11:05 a.m.

Police arrived, observed the child sleeping, and attempted to locate a parent.

According to a complaint affidavit filed in court, it was about 75 degrees outside at the time and the windows and been left cracked open.

The affidavit goes on to say that the store was paged twice for the owner of the car.  It was shortly after the second page, at 11:32 a.m., police say 29-year-old Ralitsa D. Saunders of the 100 block of Gum Grove Drive in Newport News walked out of the store approaching officers.

Man found dead in Newport News home after reportedly shooting at his friend

Newport News, Va. – Authorities are investigating after an shooting incident Wednesday night that left a man and his dog dead.

Police received calls about the situation in the 800 block of Paul Street at around 5:02 p.m. A woman reported to police that she was the caretaker of a man inside the home and he had fired shots from a gun at her.

Neighbors in the area say they heard four gunshots.

Police arrived and evacuated surrounding residents from their homes.

Police say the man would not open the door. At around 7:30 p.m., after warrants were obtained, police went inside of the home and found the man and his dog dead from gunshot wounds.

The man has been identified as 54-year-old Samuel Duane Spires.
