Sanitary pump station could determine expansion

The City of Newport News is seeking to build the Triton Court Pump Station. This endeavor will cost $3 million and will more than likely be located off Thimble Shoals Boulevard, which is near City Center.

This pump station could also be the solution that would allow the City Center and the Oyster Point office district to expand.

Constructing this sanitary pump station would improve the sewage flow through the system.

"We're approaching capacity," said John Kaoudis, assistant director of engineering.

Virginia's Department of Motor Vehicles has resurrected a mobile customer service center program that was eliminated by budget cuts in 2002.

The new service "DMV 2 Go" started in February and uses a 20-year-old recreational vehicle (with 11,000 miles) that was acquired through the state health department. The mobile customer service unit is a full-service DMV office that is capable of conducting transactions from renewing a driver's license to taking the road test, said Melanie Stokes, a DMV spokeswoman.

The DMV's mobile unit — or "Mo" as it is referred — will make its inaugural trip to the Peninsula on Aug.
