'Black Friday' Protest for VEA Educators

Virginia Education Association Members Participate in a statewide ‘Black Friday’ on February 17.

This Friday, February 17, educators across the state of Virginia will be wearing black to protest against funding cuts and other state actions undermining public educators and their students.

‘Black Friday,’ initiated by the Virginia Education Association, is a statewide day of mourning to lament the lack of commitment to public education and the loss of respect accorded teachers by our elected officials, said Dr. Kitty Boitnott, VEA president. Boitnott said, “We are in mourning because of the open disrespect and disdain being shown Virginia’s public school teachers by members of this General Assembly and the Governor.”

Boitnott draws attention to the current legislators in session and how they are attacking educators by continuing contract rights and attempting to cut retirement benefits.
